Show me the money!
“Show me?” …A short, two word phrase that demands proof that what you say you have, …you actually have. “Show me the money,” is a line made famous in the film Jerry Maguire. In other words - mere talk is not enough, I want to see the goods.
It’s what James demands to see from those who say they have faith but don’t demonstrate any good deeds. “…So lets see this so called faith then! …We’ll look at the verse
James 2:18-19 [18] But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. [19] You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that---and shudder.
“Deeds are the goods,” James seems to be saying. Accompanying the profession of being a Christian, are the actions of being a Christian. Faith therefore is an action word - it is proved by it’s actions. And that’s impossible logic to argue with, especially since Jesus, the author of true faith, demonstrated His, by “going about doing good.” (Acts 10:38). …We’ll pray.
Heavenly Father I thank you for the supreme example of Jesus. Today as I follow Him, may I be led into serving Him. Fill my life with good works that glorify His name. Amen.
